Duet Recitals: Works for Concert Organ Duo or Two Organs with Max Kenworthy

Nicholas Grigsby regularly teams up with the freelance musician, Max Kenworthy

They present the acclaimed programme for organ duo, "Four Hands; Four Feet!": thrilling duets for two organists at one organ, or works specifically writen for two players at two organs

Meet Max @ The Jazz Tempered Trio, NZ

Born in Huddersfield, England, Max Kenworthy is a freelance organist, pianist, singer and conductor based in London. His multifaceted career ensures he maintains a busy schedule on the domestic and international stage

Max has recently returned to the UK after six years in New Zealand where he was initially Assistant Organist at the Wellington Cathedral of St. Paul and later worked as a freelance musician. In that time he gave recitals around New Zealand and Australia and has also performed with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the Wellington Sinfonia, The Tudor Consort, Musica Sacra, the Orpheus Choir, the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band and New Zealand’s premiere contemporary music ensemble, Stroma. He frequently conducted the Wellington Cathedral’s four choirs, as well as Wellington-based chamber choir Cantoris

Max and Nicholas have been giving recitals together since 2004, and have recorded a CD of organ duets from Dunedin Town Hall entitled Four Hands / Four Feet. This current tour takes them to Australia, Hong Kong, France, Germany and the UK, with a further tour of the USA planned for 2009

In 2006 Max recorded his first solo organ disc, Organum Maximum,on the Wellington Cathedral organ, and is also featured on the CD Favourite Hymns; Cathedral Classics and the cathedral choir’s latest CD The Service of Shadows

As a pianist, Max performed frequently and widelywith his New Zealand-based jazz group the jazz-tempered trio. They released their debut CD Bach in Black in December 2007 – jazz interpretations of the music of J.S. Bach

Max began his musical career as a chorister at St. Paul's Cathedral, London. He started learning the organ at Bradford Grammar School before a year as Organ Scholar at Rochester Cathedral where he studied with Roger Sayer. Max then won an organ scholarship to Brasenose College, Oxford, studying with David Goode

After leaving Oxford Max was appointed Assistant Organist at Hampstead Parish Church and subsequently Organist at St. Mary's Church, Barnes, London. He continued to study organ with Jeremy Filsell while also teaching piano and organ at The London Oratory School and Latymer Upper School. He is still much in demand as a teacher, and having tutored at St. Mark’s Church School and Queen Margaret College in Wellington, now only teaches privately

Max has also worked as a concert reviewer and contributor for Radio New Zealand Concert, and currently reviews CDs for musicweb-international.com as well as working on a freelance basis for the ABRSM

Organ & Flute Recitals:
Duet Recitals with Ingrid Culliford (Flute)

Ingrid Culliford spent many years living and working in London as a free-lance flautist and teacher. During her time there she performed with many orchestras such as the London Sinfonietta, City of Birmingham Symphony, Royal Philharmonic and the Academy of St. Martin- in- the -Fields. She was a founder member and co-director of the contemporary music ensemble, Lontano, with whom she toured widely in Britain, Europe and the Americas. She also recorded frequently for BBC Radio 3 and performed in many international festivals, including the prestigious Henry Wood Proms. With Lontano she has recorded several CD's, and her solo recording of British Flute Music was highly acclaimed in both BBC and Gramophone magazines. Whilst in London she was professor of flute at Trinity College.

Since returning to NZ in 1994, Ms Culliford has given many solo and concerto performances and is a recording artist for Concert FM. She plays regularly with the Auckland based contemporary music group175East, has toured nationally with the chamber ensemble, Nahandove and is a casual extra with the NZSO. She has also played and recorded with the Australian based ensemble, Elision. She enjoys adjudicating at many festivals and competitions and is an examiner for both the Australian Music Examinations Board and the International Baccalaureate Organisation.

Ms Culliford is currently tutor in flute at Waikato University and also a member of the recently formed ensemble "The New Zealand Chamber Soloists".
