Nicholas Grigsby
Concert Organist, Recording Artist, Broadcaster

Nicholas Grigsby is one of New Zealand's most popular and sought after organ recitalists

He maintains a hectic schedule performing at prestigious venues around the world on a regular basis.

This has included Westminster Abbey, Westminster and St. Paul’s Cathedral London, as well as cathedrals and concert halls throughout Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, New Zealand, Australia, Asia Pacific and the U.S.A., including Washington National Cathedral

2008 sees a substantial International Concert Tour visiting Australia, Hong Kong, Britain, France, Germany & Russia, performing seventeen concerts in quick succession

.

His teachers in organ and improvisation included Colin Walsh, Organist Laureate at Lincoln Cathedral and Louis Thiry, Professor at the National Conservatory in Rouen, France, (himself a former pupil of the late André Marchal)

He completed his Master of Music degree in Organ and Harpsichord in New Zealand with Dr. Rachael Griffiths-Hughes, graduating with First Class Honours

In 2007 he received a Doctoral Scholarship, and is currently completing a PhD thesis, having researched The Lutheran Chorale set in Variation Form. In 2009 he will become a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University continuing his independent research into the life of J.S. Bach

Nicholas is a popular broadcaster. He presents Pressing On and Composer of the Week on National Radio NZ: Concert

This has included special programmes such as ‘Parisian Organist-Composers of the 20th Century’, and his most recent work, the lives and compositions of Maurice Duruflé, Jean Langlais and Gaston Litaize. In 2008, he will present the National Organ Week programme, the second occasion he will have done so

He is a National Recording Artist for Radio New Zealand, his last concert a live broadcast from the Wellington Cathedral of St. Paul for National Organ Week, and in 2008, Four Hands/Four Feet: Concert Organ Duos for BBC Radio 2’s The Organists Entertains from Hull City Hall UK


He is Artisitic Director of the Wanganui Festival of Organ Music based at the historic Collegiate School, New Zealand's principal showcase of pipe organ music featuring the world’s finest organists annually


Nicholas is a regular and well received performer at international festivals of organ music worldwide. He also presents concerts with the freelance organist Max Kenworthy


In 2007 Nicholas Grigsby and Max Kenworthy produced a live concert recording, Four Hands / Four Feet, on the historic organ of Dunedin Town Hall, New Zealand, which was for six weeks in the top ten of the Radio New Zealand classical charts. It has also featured on the BBC's The Organist Entertains programme and Pipedreams on public radio throughout the USA


In addition to the degree of Master of Music, Grigsby is a Licentiate in Organ Performance from Trinity College London, an Associate of the Institute of Registered Music Teachers of New Zealand, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He is a Visiting Examiner for the St. Cecilia School of Music of Australia & New Zealand from whom he holds the Diploma in Organ Performance with High Honours

He is married to Fenella Bovill-Grigsby, and they own and run a small farm and Equine and Canine Rehabilitation Centre in Taranaki, North Island, New Zealand
